JENNA M. COHAN
Licensed Psychotherapist in NYC
Certified Gestalt Therapist
Ecotherapist
I am a writer and trauma informed licensed psychotherapist based in New York City. I work with adults and teens in the delicate process of discovering who they are—navigating identity or carrying the layered stories of trauma, adoption, foster care, and transformation. Drawing on my background in writing and love of nature, I brings a grounded presence to my work.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent a decade in the magazine industry, holding director roles at VOGUE, Town & Country, and The Wall Street Journal Magazine. Raised near Provincetown on the Outer Cape, I earned my BA in English from the University of Massachusetts Boston, an MS from Pace University in New York City, and completed psychoanalytic training at Gestalt Associates in NYC. I also completed a clinical internship at Safe Horizon in Harlem, NYC as a crisis therapist for teens and young adults.
My approach blends depth-oriented and experiential therapies—drawing from Gestalt, Psychoanalysis, Ecotherapy, somatic practices, and Mindfulness—to help clients feel grounded, connected, and more fully themselves. I offer both individual and group therapy, virtually and in person.

Individual Therapy Sessions
Individual Psychotherapy sessions are offered virtually and occur 1-2x weekly for 45 minutes. My practice model does not allow for biweekly sessions. I work with adults & teens who are living with the complex impacts of trauma, particularly those with histories of adoption or foster care. I also work with adults and couples who are navigating life transitions and grief.
“Being entirely honest with oneself is a good practice.”
Quiet Mind Psychotherapy offers two types of weekly group therapy experiences: ongoing process groups and short term series group work (6-8 weeks in duration) . Both types meet 1x per week for 90 minutes. New Teen Off The Grid Group forming (virtual) + now taking inquiries for Fall 2025 | Steady Vibes: Teen Anxiety & Social Skills Group| (8 weeks in person in Manhattan).
Group Therapy
Nature & Trauma Healing
For those of us who have lived through trauma, the nervous system often learns to expect danger, even in moments of quiet. Nature became a patient teacher, showing us how to inhabit stillness without fear—whether in the rhythm of Cape Cod’s ocean waves, the hush of a forest, the sway of meadow grasses, or the quiet turns of a mountain trail. In Ecotherapy, this is the heart of healing: allowing the natural world to co-regulate with us, to model steadiness, and to offer a space where we can rest without vigilance.
Jenna is a trauma experienced and trauma trained Psychotherapist and Ecotherapist offering New York City and Cape Cod based nature therapy experiences.
In New York City, Ecotherapy experiences are mainly offered in Central Park although engaging with nature can occur inside as well. On Cape Cod these take place within the National Seashore in Provincetown and Kent’s Point in Orleans.

I work with teens finding their voice and adults carrying the layered stories of adoption & foster care, trauma, and transformation. My work focuses on the wisdom of the body, the healing power of nature, and the complexity of the human psyche. Drawing from Gestalt, Psychoanalysis, Ecotherapy, somatic practices, and Mindfulness, I offer spaces—both virtual and in person where individuals and groups can slow down, reconnect, and move through what once felt unmovable. Together, we make room for what’s been silenced, and shape new paths forward.

Ecotherapy is an evidence based therapeutic approach that explores the healing power that nature provides. In ecotherapy there is a belief that people are connected and impacted by the natural environment. I often work with patients to reclaim their sense of balance through connection and activity in nature. Check out Jenna’s Ecotherapy and Trauma Blog here.

Gestalt therapy is a relational and humanistic form of psychotherapy that is highly experiential with a focus on the therapist-patient relationship. In a session with a gestalt approach I would likely offer experiments, encourage you to notice present feelings and sensations and we would pay close attention to your body language during the session. Gestalt focuses on the here and now with less importance on past events. The goal is to become aware of your experience and perceptions & to notice your response to the present moment. Gestalt therapy promotes opening yourself to more choices and to actively challenge the roadblocks that have gotten in the way of your well-being.
